Enquire About Raigo
19th century Japanese scroll painting of the Raigo. The Raigo is the name for the descent of Amida Buddha with Seishi and Kannon. Starting in the 12th century, the Bodhisattva Jizo was added to the Raigo, following Amida in the painting. The four figures are descending on clouds to bring the believer to the Western Paradise. Each of these figures separately represents different aspects of compassion. The idea that there are deities that will be saviors if the supplicant will only ask was established in Japan during the Heian Period (794-1185).
