Jusan Butsu, the Thirteen Buddhas of the Shingon School, are often found represented together in painted images consisting of five Buddhas, seven Bodhisattvas and Fudo Myoo. Altogether they represent the chief deites of the Taizokai and Kongokai mandalas. In Shingon these thirteen Buddhas assist people during their life and continue to assist them after death to guide them into the realm of enlightenment.'

This Japanese Buddhist Jusan Butsu painting depicts 13 images on a golden silk background. The images are of Fudo Myoo, Shaka Nyorai, Monju Bosatsu, Fugen Bosatsu, Jizo Bosatsu, Miroku Bosatsu, Yakushi Nyorai, Kannon Bosatsu, Seishi Bosatsu, Mida Nyorai, Ashaku Nyorai, Dainichi Nyorai, and Kokuzo Bosatsu. The images are painted on silk with mineral pigments and gold leaf. The painting shows the figures that comprise the most important of the Shingon Mandalas.
