A beautiful framed panel of Kasuri Japanese Ikat in an alternating geometric pattern with tigers
Kasuri is the technique of tying and dying thread in order to create pictures and patterns in the woven fabric. Most kasuri were woven of cotton fiber and dyed with indigo. It is an ikat, similar to the weaving styles of Indonesia and Turkestan. Kasuri were woven in narrow strips of approximately 13 inches wide because of the size of the loom. They were then sewn into kimono, futon covers, zabuton, furoshiki, and noren.
