Volcano Scene

Peter Hayward (1905-1993) was an American artist who specialized in oil paintings, capturing different urbanscapes, landscapes, and seascapes in a unique light. A self-taught artist born in Keene, New Hampshire, Hayward began his career as a portrait sculptor, working in the medium for 15 years before discovering his talent for painting in the early 1950s. In the 1960s, he moved to Hawaii with his wife and became deeply involved in the art community, joining groups such as the Honolulu Art Association, Lahaina Art Association, Windward Artist’s Club, among others. His artistic career alternated between Hawaii and the East Coast, where he held multiple solo exhibitions. Hayward's unique palette knife works are able to capture the essence of topography in a semi abstracted scenery with a unique sense of light.
