“A Slope in Manoa Valley”
In 1954 Murray Turnbull arrived in Hawaii to teach at the University of Hawaii (Honolulu). He taught there for over 25 years and during this time, founded the renowned East-West Centre in Honolulu “to strengthen relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of Asia, the Pacific and the United States”. He is known as a modernist artist, often using bright colors. He left teaching in 1985 and continued creating art for decades from his studio in Manoa Valley.
