Edgar Leeteg
Edgar Leeteg (1904–1953), born in East St. Louis, Illinois was an American painter who was considered the father of American velvet painting. He initially worked as a billboard painter and sign writer in California. In 1933, he immigrated to French Polynesia, where he spent the rest of his life painting on black velvet, often depicting sensuous women.
