The Tokonoma 床の間 means a space between the floor, an
alcove between rooms. The Tokonoma is much more than
simply a place to put Art. It is a dedicated space which
shows the thoughtfulness towards guests and their
appreciation of artwork. Seasonal, timely and tasteful,
with the visiting guest in mind.

I grew up in Hawaii and California. Tragedy turned to a blessing when our buildings burnt to the ground and we moved to Japan.
